Salt Lake County Council to address animal testing | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
The public will have an opportunity to lend a voice for the companion animals of Salt Lake County. On Tuesday October 5, starting at 4:00 pm, the Salt Lake City Council meeting will have on their docket a presentation of an Ordinance to Amend Chapters 8.07, 8.01, and 8.13. These proposed changes, if they were to be adopted by the council, will mean great things for the animals!
One change will ban the release of animals in the shelter for the purpose of animal testing. The Salt Lake County Animal Shelter has been a leader in not giving lost and abandoned pets to research. Join Shawni Larrabee, director of Salt Lake County Animal Services as she presents an ordinance change that will make it clear to the community that animals rescued by the county shelter will not ever be sold for laboratory testing.
The other ordinance change has been designed to help end the killing of cats living in our communities and to humanely reduce their numbers by improving how Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) programs are operated in the County. TNR is a proactive measure that has proven successful in saving lives, reducing cat nuisances, and saving taxpayer dollars. If you live in Salt Lake County and care for community cats, please come speak to the benefits of TNR and support this ordinance change!
Anyone unable to attend the meeting is encouraged to contact his County Council representative and let them know you support these measures. To identify a county councilmember go to: http://www.council.slco.org.
