Roderick changes his mind; He’s staying with Utah
News

SALT LAKE CITY – Just a day after saying he was headed to Brigham Young University’s football program, Aaron Roderick says he’s staying at Utah.

BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall announced Wednesday that Roderick, a BYU alum, would be heading to the Cougars as an assistant coach.

But then on Thursday, Roderick apparently had a change of heart. He’ll be staying at the University of Utah where he’s coached under Coach Kyle Whittingham since 2005.

In a statement about his changed plans, Roderick said, “The response from my players, our coaches and the fans left me overwhelmed and I realized how much I loved it here and didn’t want to leave. I believe in Coach Whittingham and this program and I want to continue to be a part of it.”

“Aaron decided his heart was at Utah and with our football program and asked me for the opportunity to return,” said Whittingham in a statement on Thursday. “Aaron has been a valuable member of our coaching staff for the past eight years and is an excellent coach and recruiter. We are pleased he chose to stay with us.”

Roderick will retain his post as receiving coach and passing game coordinator.
